ABOUT DR. DONNA LIGDA, Author of two of the Best Books on Selling, Sales Success Now and Born to Sell

Through the years I have written millions of words to and for other people but the toughest assignment still remain writing about me! But here goes. Like many events in our lives, market timing played a key role in my new career path. It was discovered in the early ‘90s that folks could be taught to safely administer their own complex drugs to themselves and in the case of children parents could be taught thus eliminating frequent, expensive ER trips that disrupted their daily life and were terrifically expensive. My job was to develop a program on a national basis so that people could be taught to care for themselves in the comfort and privacy of their own home, safely administer their own drugs and take back daily control of their lives. This part was easy for me. What gave me sleepless nights was the fact that I was suddenly thrust into the world of Sales. I was attempting to sell drugs that no one wanted to take at a cost no one wanted to pay! What I learned real fast: Sales is always about what the customer wants and needs. It doesn’t matter what you think. So I learned that to be successful in sales three prime directives are required.

  1. Check your personal ego at the door.
  2. People buy from people they like.
  3. Product knowledge is essential.
